The Mozambique Scholarship Fund
Empowering African Students to Transform their Communities

Scholarship recipient Sulsa Ozobra (far right) takes time out of his busy schedule to play with and tutor underprivileged children as part of the Community of Sant'Egidio.

Sulsa Ozobra treats farm animals in remote areas of Mozambique in his college practicum course, preparing him for a veterinary career intended to promote rural development. Ancha Saide Cassimo interns at an accounting firm in the city of Chimoio, learning the skills to become an entrepreneur and help develop Mozambique’s economy. Moises and Manuel Chiungo, who fled to Zimbabwe during Mozambique’s brutal civil war, have returned to their homeland for their high school studies, aiming to pursue careers in engineering.

Africa’s challenges are complex, but one of the solutions is obvious: education. Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Carmen Mauriello Jr. founded the non-profit Mozambique Scholarship Fund in 2008 in the hope of providing opportunities to the talented and motivated students of this southern African country. Thanks to the generosity of individual donors, the Fund is helping Sulsa, Ancha, Moises, and Manuel further their education, realize their dreams, and develop their communities and country.

As they say in Africa, it takes a village. For Sulsa, Ancha, Moises, Manuel, and their peers, we are that village - a global village of supporters who can propel these motivated Mozambicans to improve the quality of life in their communities and country. We thank you for considering a donation to The Mozambique Scholarship Fund!
